Vespers worship with the Benedictine Community begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Sudie George Chapel on the first and third Monday of the month (except Labor Day). Following Vespers, Community members and guests gather to contemplate scripture and to read and study a book about Benedictine spirituality.
Vespers, also called Evening Prayer, is part of the Liturgy of the Hours, also known as the Divine Office. In this worship the people of God sanctify the day by praise of God and prayers of intercession for the needs of the world. Vespers begins at 7:00 p.m. and includes the reading of a Bible passage. Vespers is in Gregorian Chant in English.
The Compline service on the first and third Monday of the month (except Labor Day) begins at 8:30 p.m. when the Bendictine Community members and guests move from their study area to the Sudie George Chapel.
Compline is the night prayer or prayers at the end of the day. It’s the final worship or Office of the day in the Christian tradition of canonical hours. Compline includes a time of silence and prayers of the Community. Compline is in Gregorian Chant in English.
